CCTV film sums it up - Grounds could be shut to stop missile-throwing fans
FOOTBALL clubs face having parts of their grounds closed off if fans can’t be kept in check. The SFA is considering the action after a plastic bottle was chucked on to the Easter Road pitch during Sunday’s match against Celtic. That incident came just days after similar incidents involving coins and lighters at Tynecastle after Rangers hugely-controversial late penalty winner. SFA security chief Willie McDougall warned today that the governing body will take action if fans continue to throw missiles. Parts of some stadiums where fans persistently offend will be targeted. McDougall said: "It’s so disappointing for Hibs but they are searching CCTV film, frame by frame, to see if they can isolate the culprit. "I think the only thing that can be done is to start with fines for clubs where unruly behaviour takes place. "If that isn’t a deterrent, we’ll have to close sensitive areas and reduce capacity at matches until the message gets through about the need for better behaviour." The Easter Road incident happened towards the end of Hibs’ 3-1 defeat on Sunday, a match in which Celtic striker Craig Bellamy was accused of inflaming the fans. The Tynecastle problems followed a mysterious penalty award in stoppage time which handed Rangers a 2-1 victory. A few weeks ago, Rangers’ Fernando Ricksen was hit on the head by a lighter as he took a corner in an Old Firm game at Parkhead. from Scotsman sport
