Hidden Camera Scandal Rocks CT College |
Did A Student Place A Camera In A Dorm Shower? It is a scandal that has rocked a Connecticut College Campus. A Quinnipiac student is now in hot water accused of planting a video camera in the ceiling of a dorm room shower.
Students say they first found out about the shower cam incident in the campus newspaper on Wednesday. Thursday, security was tight outside Troupe residence hall, where a Quinnipiac University student discovered the hidden camera in the shower ceiling last month. One student describes the suspicious device. "It was up in the ceiling tiles. There was a cord in the ceiling," says Melissa Brinley, a Quinnipiac Senior.
That cord, she says, was attached to a monitoring device.
The dorm 's residential advisor was told about the spy cam immediately but it was something he apparently already knew about.
The newspaper article names RA Eric Oppegaard, as being the one who planted the device allegedly used to spy on his own suitemates.
"I don 't know who wants to live with a pervert. I know I don 't," said Brinley.
University Officials refused to name the student, but released a statement saying, "This action had the potential to greatly compromise student privacy, and as a result, university officials have imposed sanctions on the student in question."
Students say the punishment is too lenient. They told CBS 2 that the RA was simply forced to resign from his post and moved to another dorm.
But that could be the least of their worries. Students fear there may be video footage from the shower cam bringing even more embarrassment to the victims.
"Resident life and security are not making any comment. Something is a little fishy. There are actions that need to happen," said Glen Campbell, a student. Students wonder just how many spy cam victims are out there and how many videotapes, if any, will surface? Quinnipiac University, known for tallying up poll numbers, could soon be conducting an internal count of its own.
