Police Pursuing Digital Hookups to Security Cameras 8/26/05

Kansas City Police are working with federal housing officials to place four portable security cameras at various public-housing locations.

The surveillance cameras would be capable of eventually sending digital images directly to police cars. Officers dispatched to those locations could then see what was happening there before arriving.

U.S. Housing and Urban Development Officials will decide where to put the security cameras, after getting some input from police, said Deputy Chief Kevin Masters.

Masters said the Police Department is also encouraging businesses or neighborhood groups that are planning to buy cameras for security to consider buying equipment that would be compatible with the department’s equipment.

"The Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission is applying for a federal grant to bring a security camera system to the region," Masters said. Source: kansascity.com
