It's every parent's worst nightmare and it can happen in just seconds. In Arkansas, a Warren woman’s great niece was nearly abducted at a local discount store.
Experts recommend several things to prevent your child from being abducted. One of which is to create an identification kit for your child to complete with Styrofoam cutouts for teeth impressions, hair samples, fingerprints and photographs. They're easy targets mostly because of their innocence and inquisitive minds. All too often children are lured into dangerous situations. We've all heard of high profile cases and experts say
child abductions can happen anywhere.
(Carol Robinson,
Arkansas Missing Children Services Program) "We need to caution our children when they're at the bus stop. Caution them when they're walking home from school. Those are the places kids are approached and obviously any place where children hang out."
(Mary Rea, Great-Niece Nearly Abducted) "The main thing would probably be to scream bloody murder."
Mary Rea's great niece was
nearly abducted in the toy isle at Fred's in Warren Arkansas two years ago. Mary recounts hearing her niece scream to get away.
Experts recommend a number of things to keep your
child safe since nearly 80% of child abductions happen within in 200 feet from the child's homes. Child safety advocates say it's important to inspect your neighborhood for unsafe areas.
According to the Arkansas Missing Children Services program 74% of kids are killed quickly in true
stranger abductions. However in Arkansas 213 children were recovered quickly and these signs of progress.
According to reports, 350
children are missing in Arkansas at any given time. But just keeping in mind simple tips like telling your child to always take a friend. Stay in big groups and say no to someone you don't know who offers you a ride. These tips can help save a child from being abducted. Source: katv.com |
