Waubonsie Valley High School Officials will consider adding more
security cameras in the wake of a sexual assault complaint filed by a student at the school.
Principal Jim Schmid said Tuesday that
security cameras already in place "didn't help" in the case of an 18-year-old student who told police she was assaulted last week during the school day.
Authorities continued to investigate the allegation, although no charges have been filed.
The incident took place in an obscure, emergency stairwell of the school, not frequently traveled by students. Schmid said he talked to Indian Prairie School District Superintendent Howard Crouse about ways to add more
cctv security cameras.
On Tuesday, Schmid answered parents' questions and reviewed the school's security procedures. "Parents were alerted about the case by e-mail, and the school has cooperated with police," he said.
The student told Aurora police that during third period Friday two 17-year-old male students brought her to a stairwell, where one of the youths assaulted her and the other prevented her from leaving.
The case has been turned over to the DuPage County state's attorney's office. Police officials have said there is a question whether the sex was consensual.
