Security Cameras for Groves a Priority By Michelle Paynter 6/9/05 |
The
Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education believes the safety of its students should be a top priority. Groves High School will install
security cameras in an effort to prevent intruders from gaining admittance to the school.
This year Groves has been the center of school safety issues. Two girls they were attacked in the bathroom. Police believe the girls made their stories up, but there have been other reports of fighting and install
intruders on campus.
Even though she thinks the
cameras will help, Principal Lucy Phillip says it's not a cure-all solution. "First of all, I don't think it solves the problems of school safety and security. I wish there was one thing that would, but I think it definitely will be a deterrent and if an intruder comes on campus we can follow up quickly."
The board was supposed to vote on a contract to install 60 cameras today, but there was a problem with the bids. They'll bring it up again at a future meeting.
Principal Phillip hopes to have the cameras in place when classes begin in the fall. Source: wtoctv.com |
