Security cameras to watch over Toowoomba cabs
Toowoomba cabs will soon be fitted with security cameras, as part of the Queensland Government's plan to improve safety in taxis. Cameras will be installed in nearly 3,000 cabs across Queensland by the end of the year, with tenders being called this month. Cathy Boorman from Garden City Cabs says most local taxi drivers are happy with the move. "There were some issues originally way back when they were first coming out, probably the only one the drivers had were with the privacy issue, but that's been sorted out," she said. "There's no issue there at all now and, yes, they'll be looking forward to it. The incident rate has dropped dramatically in the areas where they were put in, so that's what it's all about."
