Surveillance Video Shows Last Week's First Chopper Crash 6/23/05

As federal investigators prepare their preliminary reports on last week's helicopter crashes, new surveillance video that may help in the investigation of the first crash is being released to the public.

The video, taken by a Department of Transportation surveillance camera stationed across the East River, shows the helicopter as it lifts off, veers left then plunges into the water.

The chopper was carrying a total of seven people. Only one remains hospitalized.

It was the first of two helicopter crashes that week. The second chopper went down on Friday, carrying six bank executives headed back to Delaware.

The National Transportation Safety Board says preliminary reports on both crashes could be out within the week.
