Wife of Officer Claiming Unfair Surveillance 6/15/05 |
Chief David Wray says he's investigating claims of unwarranted
surveillance but dismisses claims of a so-called "secret police." The wife of a high-profile police officer says she's also been targeted with surveillance by what she calls "the secret police."
Police Chief David Wray dismissed claims of a "secret police" force, but said he would investigate his Special Intelligence Unit after Lieutenant James Hinson said he and other officers are being unfairly investigated because of their race.
Now Hinson's wife, Beverly Hinson, tells of her alleged experience with a person whom she believes was an officer who was
following her.
"It was parked right here in this parking space right here backed in," Hinson said.
Hinson's curiosity wouldn't let her ignore the van that sat a few feet from her house for more than half an hour.
"I didn't know whether this man was a rapist, murderer or whatever the case may be. I live by myself. I feared for my life," Hinson said.
Noticing a man inside the van and realizing she's the only resident in her small town home development, Hinson called police who confronted the person in the passenger seat and told Hinson that the man was a former GPD Employee.
"Come to find out the officer told me he was a retired
Greensboro Police Officer doing some
surveillance for something over here in Adam's Farm," said Hinson.
Recently, Hinson's husband Lieutenant James Hinson claimed he found this
tracking device hidden underneath his patrol car.
After Hinson claimed he found the tracking device, Beverly Hinson decided to call Internal Affairs at GPD requesting an investigation of the suspicious van she witnessed near her doorstep.
"Putting the pieces of a puzzle together that this guy didn't belong here. And I just really feel like he's quote, unquote, part of the 'secret police' that they're talking about," Hinson said.
